Summer Picnic Multilevel rides and lunch

Ridewithgps.com route links will be posted on the club calendar and Facebook no later than one week before the picnic. Please download the route to your device or print a cue sheet.

A picnic lunch will be served at the park after the ride.

***Sign up on the club site by Thursday, July 14 so that we have head count for lunch.

NEW MHBC EVENT

Test your speed and endurance at this weekly informal 10 mile Time Trial (TT) event. The event will take place on Thursdays with a 5:30pm meet-up at Freedom Park for a 6:00pm start. After a warm-up ride from Freedom Park to the start line (between Velie Road and Finnish Lane) riders will be started in 1 minute intervals. There is no drafting and the course is not closed to traffic so riders must practice safe riding techniques especially at the turn-around points. All MHBC members are welcome to ride. Rain cancels and will be posted on the MHBC Facebook page by 4:00pm. The course is flat, fast and fun, so if you have ever wanted to give a time trial a try please join us! NEW YORK BICYCLING COALITION
Contact your state leaders to help get these laws passed:.

SAFE SPEEDS: Permitting Lower Speed Limits.
These two bills include State Wide Roads and NY City Streets.

SAFE STREETS: Creating Complete Streets.
These three bills include design, building and maintenance of State, County and Local Roads.

PROTECTING VULNERABLE ROAD USERS
These two bills include the 3 FT minimum passage of cyclists.

CRASH VICTIMS BILL OF RIGHTS
This bill includes the legal proceedings after a crash.

Bicycle Safety Clinic

On June 5th at the Rotary Pavilion in Highland, Pam and Fred Freed helped at the Bicycle Safety Clinic presented by the Highland Rotary Club and Tom Polk, the Bicycle Program Manager of the Kingston YMCA. Pam fitted and adjusted new helmets. Fred was up the trail teaching the proper use of hand signals to the young children who participated.

Ride Leader Incentive Program

Our club is happy to announce that we will again be offering a ride leader incentive program! This program is to incentivize ride leaders to offer interesting rides and thank those who are active ride leaders. Only rides posted on the MHBC calendar will be counted.

MHBC is a 100% volunteer organization. Our ride leaders are the main reason our club survives and having more, multi-level rides will enable the club to thrive. If you have been with the club for a year or more, please commit to leading at least one ride.

Ride Leader incentive program:

The levels for the end of the year awards for the 2022 riding season:

• Anyone who had led 15 rides or more: $100 gift certificate from a local Bike shop or a $100 donation to charity of your choice.

• Anyone who had led 10 rides or more: $75 gift certificate from a local Bike shop or a $75 donation to charity of your choice.

• Anyone who had led 5 rides or more: $50 from a local Bike shop or a $50 donation to charity of your choice.

• Anyone who had led 3 rides that are D, C or 20 – 25-mile, non- hilly C+ rides: a MHBC, individual membership for 2023

Rides must be posted on the MHBC website calendar. Directions on how to post on the calendar are on the club ride calendar in the lower left box. The password is the one you received when completing your 2022 club membership registration. Also, that can be obtained by emailing mhbc.contact@gmail.com.

** Rides are being added daily to the calendar now that nicer weather has returned. So please keep checking for updates.

Membership

Our club is changing from a yearly membership to a subscription membership service. New and renewing members will get one year of membership from the date of their sign up. All 2021 memberships expired on Dec. 31, 2021. The new enrollment information can be found on our website or by clicking this link: Membership enrollment

*All new members receive a welcome call from our new member coordinator.

Membership is important for insurance coverage on our club rides. Any rider is welcome to one, introductory club ride. To participate in subsequent rides, club membership is required.

Ride leaders are always needed.  If you enjoy participating in group rides please consider leading a ride. Check the club website in the info section for ride leader guidance. Also, any ride leader would be happy to answer any questions.
