Summer Picnic

Join us for some lovely riding in Dutchess and Columbia Counties. Lunch provided when all riders return at approximately 12:15-12:30.

*Please sign up on the club calendar by July 26 so we have an accurate head count for lunch. Also, bring a dessert to share.

Check Facebook the day before for any changes related to weather.

New riders welcome if this is their first club ride. All others must be members. Rides follow club rules.

* if parking lot full, there is parking at the Red Hook Pool area. The pool is just a few minutes north of Fruit Bud Lane on Linden Avenue. Easy bike ride over to Rec Park from there.

Have any cycling items such as clothing or accessories in good condition you no longer want? Bring them to the summer picnic and we will have a table of free, in good condition, used giveaways. Any items left at the end of the day will be donated.

Recovery Skills Study Participants Needed

Researcher - Stuart Wilson, PhD student at the University of Ottawa

The research looks at recovery as a skill that athletes can practice and improve to benefit their training. Seeking cyclists to participate in a study looking at the patterns of decision-making they use to manage their recovery from training.

Training for endurance sports takes hard work, and hard work takes recovery. Online, most info frames recovery as a list of tools you can buy, but if we look at it from the perspective of the athlete, deciding why, how, and when you recover is just as important as any one tool you might use to get there.

Briefly, participants in this study will be asked to complete two hard workouts on Zwift, 48 hours apart. In the 48 hours leading up to each workout, they’ll be asked to complete a series of short questionnaires throughout the day addressing their thoughts, actions, and feelings around recovery. Looking for cyclists of any level, 17 or older, who have previously raced on Zwift and can currently do workouts on Zwift (i.e., they’ve got a trainer and account). Participants will get an individual report of their personal results, tips on how to improve their recovery, and full results of the study when it’s complete.

The New York Cycling Census has finally gone live. This unprecedented effort represents nearly 14,000 responses to a comprehensive survey sent statewide and which received responses from every county in the state, including a robust response from the mid Hudson Valley.
