Legacy of Giving: Mid-Hudson Bicycle Club Member's Donation Supports Community CyclingKingston, NY – October 20, 2025 — The spirit of generosity and a love for cycling continue to roll forward in Ulster County, thanks to a heartfelt donation from the late Karen Flaherty, a long-time member of the Mid-Hudson Bicycle Club. Following her recent passing, Karen’s legacy lives on through the gift of eight bicycles donated to the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County’s Bicycle Program. The donation, made possible through the Mid-Hudson Bicycle Club, is already making an impact. The bicycles will support local residents in need of reliable transportation, many of whom may not have access to a car or other means of transportation. Through the YMCA’s Lend-A-Wheel program, the bikes will be matched with community members seeking affordable and sustainable mobility solutions. "Karen Flaherty’s generosity, and the support from the Mid-Hudson Bicycle Club, is helping keep our community moving safely and affordably," said Justin Ledoux, Bicycle Programs Director for the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County. "These bikes are more than just a means of transportation. They represent opportunity, freedom, and connection." Some of the donated bicycles will be made available through resale, with proceeds directly supporting the YMCA’s Lend-A-Wheel and Community Repair programs. These initiatives not only provide bikes but also teach skills and promote safe cycling across the county.
