Shout Out

Thank you to Jason Klock and Bikeway for the successful bike repair clinic on May 12. It was well attended and everyone learned a lot.

Barbara Alstadt put a lot of hard work into organizing the fun Spring Fling multilevel ride and lunch held on May 14. There were 39 attendees. The event included a ride leader presentation by Jeff Saffir. Ride leaders who committed to leading a ride were given a ride leader packet and entered into a raffle. The winner of the gift bag that included a $25 gift certificate to Breakaway Cycles and other good stuff was Graham Weinstein. Barbara appreciates all her helpers: Randy Alstadt, Jeanne Csillag, Deb Glazer, Jason Klock, Jeff Saffir, Vicki Smith, Carol Wood, Paula Ward, and Karen Weis. A special thank you to Barbara!!

Ride Leader Incentive Program

Our club is happy to announce that we will again be offering a ride leader incentive program! This program is to incentivize ride leaders to offer interesting rides and thank those who are active ride leaders. Only rides posted on the MHBC calendar will be counted.

MHBC is a 100% volunteer organization. Our ride leaders are the main reason our club survives and having more, multi-level rides will enable the club to thrive. If you have been with the club for a year or more, please commit to leading at least one ride.

Ride Leader incentive program:

The levels for the end of the year awards for the 2022 riding season:

• Anyone who had led 15 rides or more: $100 gift certificate from a local Bike shop or a $100 donation to charity of your choice.

• Anyone who had led 10 rides or more: $75 gift certificate from a local Bike shop or a $75 donation to charity of your choice.

• Anyone who had led 5 rides or more: $50 from a local Bike shop or a $50 donation to charity of your choice.

• Anyone who had led 3 rides that are D, C or 20 – 25-mile, non- hilly C+ rides: a MHBC, individual membership for 2023

Rides must be posted on the MHBC website calendar. Directions on how to post on the calendar are on the club ride calendar in the lower left box. The password is the one you received when completing your 2022 club membership registration. Also, that can be obtained by emailing mhbc.contact@gmail.com.

Please join us on a multi-level group ride from Twin Star Orchards. We had loads of fun riding these pleasant back roads several years ago, followed by socializing and snacks from the Orchard’s fare.

There will be plenty of parking and rest rooms available.

MHBC AMISH COUNTRY WEEKEND

JUNE 9-12

Approximately 16 people, riders and non-riders, have signed up for this trip. There is still time to join the group. Most participants are staying at the Bird in Hand Family Lodge, the Amish Country Motel or the Country Acres Campground - Bird in Hand Lodging and camping. There are also many other motels and hotels in the area. All the rides will start at the Restaurant Bird in Hand Family Restaurant

MHBC Maine Trip

When: MHBC TRIP (Aug 21-25) plus BIKE MAINE (Aug 25-29)

Over the years, quite a few of us have enjoyed participating in Bike Maine. This trip had been a weeklong cycling vacation, which included meals, snacks, campgrounds, and evening entertainment. This year, the venue has changed from a week to a long weekend, August 26-28, 2022, in Lincoln (Wabanaki Territories).

We are proposing that, because Lincoln is such a long drive from our area, we combine the Bike Maine event with a preliminary tour. We will start from the Booth Bay, Maine area.

 Our tentative plan is:  

Aug 21 – drive to a hotel in Booth Bay

Aug 22-24 – C, C+, B rides along selected routes from the hotel

Aug 25 – Drive to Lincoln

Aug 26-28 – participate in Bike Maine

Aug 29 – return home

 People are welcome to join us for either segment of the trip.

There are many opportunities for shopping, dining, sightseeing, and other activities for your non-cycling partners to enjoy as well.

Membership

Our club is changing from a yearly membership to a subscription membership service. New and renewing members will get one year of membership from the date of their sign up. All 2021 memberships expired on Dec. 31, 2021. The new enrollment information can be found on our website or by clicking this link: Membership enrollment

*All new members receive a welcome call from our new member coordinator.

Membership is important for insurance coverage on our club rides. Any rider is welcome to one, introductory club ride. To participate in subsequent rides, club membership is required.

Ride leaders are always needed.  If you enjoy participating in group rides please consider leading a ride. Check the club website in the info section for ride leader guidance. Also, any ride leader would be happy to answer any questions.

The MHBC is only as good as our rides. And our rides are only as good as our leaders!
